Cooking Up a Healthy Life:  The Joy of Food and Mindful Eating.

 


Sophia loved cupcakes. She ate them all the time. Her friend, Maria, was worried. "Sophia," she said one day, "you're always eating cupcakes. It's not good for you." Sophia shrugged. "They make me happy," she replied. Maria sighed. "But what about your health?" Sophia smiled. "I'll worry about that later."
 Weeks passed. Sophia got sick. She felt tired and sluggish. The doctor told her to eat healthier food. Sophia was sad. No more cupcakes. Maria visited her with a bag of groceries. "I'll teach you to cook," she said. They made a simple soup with vegetables and chicken. Sophia was surprised. It tasted good! She started cooking every day. She felt better. She realized Maria was right. 
"Like a car needs the right fuel," Maria said, "your body needs good food." Sophia understood. Cupcakes were like putting the wrong fuel in a car. It might seem okay for a while, but eventually, it leads to problems. She learned that taking care of herself was important, and it could even be enjoyable.
